Clean Car Discount.
The New Zealand government announced the Clean Car Discount, making it more affordable to own an Electric Vehicle. Rebates will now be available for new and used Battery Electric Vehicles (EV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) valued at $80,000 or less, with a 3-star safety rating or above.
The Clean Car Discount will apply only to new and used vehicles registered in New Zealand for the first time. For electric vehicles first registered between 1 July and 31 December 2021, a rebate will apply:
New Battery Electric Vehicle $8,625
New Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle: $5,750
Used Battery Electric Vehicle: $3,450
Used Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle: $2,300

Subaru of New Zealand’s Managing Director Wallis Dumper says “We are thrilled that Subaru has announced its first electric vehicle, however we are still in discussions with Subaru Corporation about availabilty for the New Zealand market. Future electric vehicle projects form part of ongoing dialogue between Subaru of New Zealand and the factory. The SOLTERRA news will no doubt excite many of our customers who are looking forward to owning a Subaru electric vehicle, however currently there is no timeline to share.”
